Know Your Milk

Milk is supposed to be simple. However, It's become a glass of doubt for many parents. Links to early puberty, cancer and hormonal imbalances makes us ask - What’s in the white liquid anyway?

Here is the dirty list.

1.
Antibiotics are meant to save lives - not show up in our everyday food

Antibiotics in milk ? But how ?

An average human weighs 100 kg. A cow weighs 400 kg. When cows fall sick, they’re often given the same antibiotics as us. These stay in their system for 5–6 days, and traces can pass into the milk.

Now think about it: We hesitate to take a pill unless we need it. But what if you’re unknowingly drinking tiny doses of antibiotics every day?

Over time, the bacteria in your body get used to the medicine and become resistant -which means the medicine cant kill the bacteria anymore. This is called (AMR) or Antimicrobial Resistance. So when you really fall sick, the antibiotics might not work, putting your life at risk.

2.
Growth hormones dont just grow cows.

Some farms use artificial hormones on cows. These hormones make calves grow faster or force the cow’s body to produce more milk than it naturally would.

But here’s the problem: Traces of those hormones end up in the milk. And now you’re not just drinking milk anymore—you’re drinking signals meant to grow a 400 kg animal.

In kids, this could mean early puberty. In adults, it could mess with natural hormones - and over time, lead to serious illness.

3.
Acids, Bases & Chemicals!

Yikes ! Doesn’t that sound more like a chemistry class? Bacteria love milk. As they munch away, they make it sour by producing acid - Thats what makes the milk curdle.

To neutralize the acid , some folks add a base like caustic soda, detergent & baking soda to keep the milk from spoiling. Sure, it stops the curdling - but do you want to be drinking drain cleaners ?

And to kill the bacteria? They go a step further - adding dangerous chemicals like boric acid, formalin, or salicylic acid. These are so strong, they’re actually used to preserve dead bodies! Definitely not meant for your milk !

4.
Thick Milk = Good Milk ?Nope. Not Always

Logo Image
Some farmers don’t get paid fairly. They’re paid based on fat and SNF (Solids-Not-Fat) in their milk. So, to boost the numbers, some add stuff like : Salt , Starch or Sugar, Urea or Glucose or Palm Oil for fake creaminess!

These make milk look thick and rich - but it’s all an illusion. Worse, it messes with the authentic taste & isn’t great for your health.

Here’s How Sid’s Farm

Keeps the nasties out

By chilling the milk at the right time

Bacteria love warmth - and milk spoils fast if it isn’t chilled right away. Sid’s Farm follows the best practice of chilling the milk immediately after collection — right at the farmer and village level. By cooling it at the source, they stop bacteria in their tracks. That means there’s no need for preservatives -That’s half the problem solved.Simple. Smart. Safe.

By testing every batch of milk - Every Single Day
By testing every batch of milk - Every Single Day

At Sid’s Farm, every batch of milk procured (typically every 45 litre can) goes through over 45+ safety checks — not once a week, but every single day. Through various stages of production, Every single batch of milk is tested for: classes of antibiotics | 2 hormones | Neutralizers | Preservatives | Thickeners Harmful Adulterants and Additives | Other Base Quality checks. Only milk that aces all tests reaches your doorstep.

By working with the farmers - Not Against Them
By working with the farmers - Not Against Them

At Sid’s Farm, we don’t just buy milk - we build honest partnerships. If a cow falls sick, the farmer gives medicine - as they should. We still pay for the rejected milk because honesty matters more. But if the milk fails our tests and the farmer didn’t report it, we don’t pay. We support them with free vet care, help them avoid unnecessarymedication, and ensure they earn enough to sustainably produce clean, safe milk.

But why all the fuss

The simple answer is because ‘We Care’

And because we believe testing everyday is the only way to know if your milk is truly safe ! Here’s why...

You can’t always see or taste the nasties in your milk - which makes it hard for customers to trust the quality of milk delivered. To make it harder, Brands use a lot of buzzwords that make it confusing.

Let’s break down these BUZZWORDS so you know exactly what you are getting.

Tested means the milk has been scientifically tested for any bad stuff. The most trusted way to know for sure. But testing once in a while isn’t enough. If cows are milked daily - The milk has to be tested daily too. That’s the only way to be sure if it is safe - every single day.
